PUBLICATION

This book is a collection of family recipes from my mother’s recipe book. Being from Mauritius, these recipes are of the food I grew up eating.

Mauritius is a small island in the Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of Africa. Being a multi-cultural country, its food is influenced mainly from African, Chinese, French, and Indian cuisine. Although the national language of Mauritius is English, the most spoken language around the island is ‘Créole Morisien’, Mauritian Creole. It is a French-based creole language often spoken with a mix of French and English by the locals, including myself. Mauritian Creole is not a very well-known language, which is why I wanted to put it at the forefront and showcase it in this book.

The book consists of four chapters, ’Gajack’ for snacks, L’entrée for appetizers, ‘Plat’ for the main course, and Dessert.
